Remember This From School? Linoleum Printing!
31.03.2022 17:08 UhrIf we’re honest, our memories of childhood are a bit sugarcoated after all. Sure, every day was an adventure. But we also had many duties as children. Hardly ever did we feel this more clearly than at school. Fortunately, apart from the tough subjects like math or chemistry, there were also those lessons that were true oases in the school day for us: Sports and art! But while the sports lessons were a bit hard on some of the less athletic children, the art lessons were pure enjoyment for all of us. We could simply let off steam creatively – when can you really do that nowadays, as an adult?
If you’re looking for a creative oasis like you had back then, we’ve got something for you: linoleum printing like you used to do in art class!
And this is how it works!
We did linoleum printing in elementary school – so it’s not too difficult! Although in the end it also depends on the motif… First of all, you need a piece of linoleum to work with. Using a stencil or freehand, draw the contours of your print motif with a pen. Now you turn the lines into grooves with a special carving tool, a utensil with a U-shaped blade. Next, paint the elevated areas of the motif in a color of your choice. It is best to use oil-based paint, as it does not dry too quickly. Afterwards you can press the printing plate on paper or canvas similar to a stamp and thereby transfer the color!
