Ingenious Tricks: How To Dye Boring White T-Shirts!

When our parents said back then that all trends return at least once, we smiled wearily and continued to feel as if we had re-invented the wheel fashion-wise. Today, of course, we know better; our parents were right. Not only that today plenty of young people are running around in Nirvana shirts – also tie-dyed is back in fashion (as it already was in the 70s, which we ignored in our 90s youth, when we thought we were super hip).

If your old batik shirts are moth-eaten by now, here are a bunch of tips on how to colorfully dye plain white clothes!

This is what you need

Water bowl
Empty bottles for the paint (or measuring cups)
Textile dye, various colors
Rubber gloves
Rubber bands
White shirts

How to do it!

First, prepare the color by mixing it with water (see the instructions in the package for the ratio). In the basic version, simply roll the shirt into an elongated ball and fix it with a few rubber bands. Then you add the dye as you like, just make sure you have an appropriate mat or the shirt is in a laundry tub or similar when you start dyeing. For variation #2, roll the shirt into a ball and again use the rubber bands to hold it in place. Of course, you can also apply the dye freely onto the spread out T-shirt and paint with it, so to speak.
