3 Optical Illusions That You Can Easily Create Yourself!

Remember those 3D books where you had to look at the picture a certain way or from a certain angle, then it literally popped out at you? How we used to press our noses against them! Yes, optical illusions fascinated us as children – but they are still appealing to adults, too. This is even more true if you can create them yourself. We’ll show you how!

Illusion #1

Trace the contours of your hand on a piece of paper.

Now draw lines parallel to the short side of the sheet at regular intervals of about 0,5 inch, but leave out the contours of the hand.

Now continue the lines across the hand, but curve them to give the impression of three-dimensionality.

Color the spaces between the lines alternately in opaque yellow and red.

Intensify the contours of the hand with a pencil.

Illusion #2

Draw a square of 3 x 3 inches.

Draw a line from the upper left to the lower right corner of the square.

Now draw lines at regular intervals from this cross line to the lower left corner as well as to the upper right corner.

Draw lines parallel to the cross line at regular intervals.

Now paint every other of the resulting squares black.

Illusion #3

Draw a line cross, both lines should have a length of 3 inches.

Draw marks on the lines at a distance of 0,2 inches.

Now connect the marks as shown in the video – a grid is created.

Blurred contour lines further enhance the three-dimensional impression.
