11 Handyman Tips You Should Definitely Know!
28.05.2022 8:43 UhrIn our young hearts, Dad will of course always remain the king of the craftsmen. But with a little distance and seen through adult eyes, there are a few tricks that he didn’t know back then. If you want to really impress your old man the next time you visit your parents, we’ve got the following simple but brilliant tips for you!
#1 DIY Holder
With a little button magnet under your glove, you won’t have to worry about where to put your nails when hammering.
#2 Saving Screws
If the screwdriver won’t take hold because the profile of the screw is messed up, you can use a hacksaw to make new grooves.
#3 Closure + suspension for tubes
You can not only close a silicone tube or similar with a broad piece of tape – if you drill a hole in the tape, it will also act as a suspension.
#4 Connect cables, trick 1
You can connect two cable ends together by loosening a piece of the insulation at each end, forming the wires inside into two bundles each and twisting them together. Now just wrap the exposed wire with insulating tape – done!
#5 Loosen cable tie
If a cable tie gets caught in the guide, you can loosen it again with a small piece of plastic, e.g. cut out of a plastic bottle.
#6 Impro wrench
Out of a (sufficiently large) screw and a nut you can build a DIY wrench as shown in the video.
#7 Iron out dents
You can literally iron out dents in (unpainted) wood: Just moisten the wood with a little water beforehand and put something between the iron and the workpiece, such as a piece of kitchen towel as shown in the video.
#8 Floor protector
You can quickly make a felt glider replacement out of a sponge by cutting it into cubes and then attaching them to the chair legs (or whatever else needs padding).
#9 Measuring Tape Holder
To prevent a tape measure from constantly retracting, you can hammer a nail into the wood as a holder.
#10 Cord dispenser
If you cut a hole in a plastic bottle and drill a hole in the lid, you can put a roll of string or something similar in there and pass the end of the string through the neck of the bottle and the lid.
#11 Connecting Cables, Trick 2
Another way to connect cable ends with each other: Loosen a piece of insulation at both ends and slip a plastic sleeve over one end. Now twist the exposed wires together and slide the sleeve over the spot. If you now heat the sleeve with a lighter, the plastic will contract and insulate the wire.
